Bio

Marianne Reger is a creative photographer who has resided in Reno, Nevada for almost 30 years.  She has shown at many local and regional exhibitions including the University of Nevada, Reno, Truckee Meadows Community College, Sierra Arts Foundation, Downtown Reno Library, and the Wild and Scenic Film Festival in Grass Valley, CA and has been involved in the Truckee Meadows Community College photography program for four years. Her work has been published in the 2019 edition of the West Marin Review, an art and literature journal, published out of Point Reyes, California.  She was the winner of the 2016 TMCC Student Art Show in Photography and the 2019 TMCC Student Art Show Curator’s Choice Award. She has been a “serious hobbyist” photographer for four years.

Influences

As a student of art and photographic history, I find I am deeply inspired by other artists and photographers.  I do not seek to emulate or reproduce their work, but to be inspired by their thought process, intention, innovation, biographies, and the manifested beauty of their work.

Art History: Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, abstract art, modern/contemporary art, street photography, fine art photography, vintage photography, landscape/nature photography.

Photographers:  Sebastiao Salgado, Keith Carter, Sally Mann, Dorothea Lange, Alfred Stieglitz, Richard Avedon, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Cole Thompson, and many photography teachers/friends along the way.

Artists/Painters: Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Jackson Pollock, Mark Bradford, Francisco de Goya, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Goldsworthy, José Parlá, and the many emerging artists I follow on Instagram.

Poets/Writers: Emily Dickinson, Mary Oliver, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Willa Cather, Aldo Leopold, Laura Ingalls Wilder.
